Default ow, swollen nipple

my left nipple is unbelieveably swollen, if you imagine the bit of my other
nipple that sticks out is fairly similar in size to my little finger, this
is bigger than my thumb and jolly painful. Breastfeeding was painful during
and afterwards, it subsided a bit, but as it was so obviously swollen I
decided to pump rather than wait for the next feed, pumping didn't hurt,
perhaps mild discomfort, breast is now feeling empty rather than quite full
as it was before, but nipple is still the size of a mountain and sore if
touched, but not otherwise. I have no other symptoms that I can think of,
particularly no mastitis symptoms, no skin damage that I can see. I don't
want to dash straight to the doctor as I suspect he would go for antibiotics
and I've only just got over thrush, any ideas?

One time with my 2nd dd she bit my nipple with her toothless mouth
which didn't break the skin, but left my nipple swollen like that. It
hurt to nurse her, but I still did and it got better without any help.
But, I would imagine you would know if your nipple got abused like
that, so I am not sure what it is in your case.
