Goochland rape case goes to grand jury

A grand jury in December will consider charges against a Goochland
County man accused of raping a 15-year-old girl.

Today, Craig A. Ferguson, 34, a child-protective services employee for
the city of Richmond, waived a preliminary hearing in Goochland Juvenile
and Domestic Relations Court. His case will go to a grand jury on Dec. 11.

The former Goochland Fire-Rescue Association volunteer is charged with
rape, which carries a sentence of five years to life in prison.

Goochland Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney Nancy Oglesby will handle the
prosecution, and Richmond defense attorney Mike Caudill will represent
Ferguson.

Ferguson was arrested Sept. 7, accused of having sexual intercourse with
a girl whom he met while serving as a mentor at a county fire camp.

The girl was described as mentally or physically disabled in arrest
warrants, though authorities and prosecutors declined to elaborate on
her condition and whether the encounter was forced or consensual.
According to warrants, the girl claimed Ferguson had sexual intercourse
with her in her parents' Goochland home while they were away.

Authorities recovered a variety of electronic devices, telephones and
computer equipment from Ferguson's mobile home in the Goochland
Courthouse area on the day of his arrest.

A pickup truck registered to Ferguson was impounded by investigators. In
it, authorities said they found an Internet printout of a map of the
area in which the girl lives with her parents. The printout was dated
Aug. 24, the date he is accused of raping her.

Ferguson served four years as a volunteer and has been employed since
2002 with the Richmond Department of Social Services. The department
suspended him without pay pending the outcome of the charge.

Imagine that, 6.4 children die at the hands of the very agencies that
are supposed to protect them and only 1.5 at the hands of parents per
100,000 children. CPS perpetrates more abuse, neglect, and sexual abuse
and kills more children then parents in the United States. If the
citizens of this country hold CPS to the same standards that they hold
parents too. No judge should ever put another child in the hands of ANY
government agency because CPS nationwide is guilty of more harm and
death than any human being combined. CPS nationwide is guilty of more
human rights violations and deaths of children then the homes from which
they were removed. When are the judges going to wake up and see that
they are sending children to their death and a life of abuse when
children are removed from safe homes based on the mere opinion of a
bunch of social workers.
