Why's that?

I've never heard of it being done in the UK by anything other than a gun
with the earring in - the earrings come in sterile packets and can be
installed in the gun without touching them and infection is far more
likely to come from the fact that you have an open wound with a foreign
object in it.

The earrings are sterile, but the gun is not! Those guns cannot be
sterilized because they are plastic. Any lymph or blood that spatters
from the piercing will remain on the gun. So you'd better hope the
folks getting pierced before you don't have Hepatitus or AIDS.

But I had an idea last night. I'm wondering whether soaking them in breast
milk might help.

great idea, I think I may have done that on myself...

How do you know they've healed well enough to take the earrings out/put
others in? I thought seeing as she had had no problems for over 4 weeks that
they would be healed in that time, but obviously not.

dunno, obviously the first few weeks are going to be different from
later, I'd have thought 2 weeks of it being absolutely fine would
probably be enough, but if she's at all sensitive to the metal or
anything it might not be.

Cheers

did you have them done at a doctor's office or at the mall?

Claires accessories. I don't think doctors do them round here. It's a
choice of jewellery shops or the backstreet tattoo
artist/fortuneteller/body piercer.

and hair dressers/beauty salons, round where I lived when I got mine
done, I don't think there was any high street shops doing them. Piercing
studios are not always the place you imagine them to be, I've
accompanied friends to them and sometimes they are just places in an
indoor market which you'd have no issues in taking a child into. I'm
pretty sure they still do it with a gun though.

When we had my daughters ears done the kit came with 2 preloaded guns
that they tossed when they where done. No one used the gun before her
and no one used them after her.

We've been cleaning them 3 times a day normally, and more often when

or if I need a prescription.

Prescription only.

Never heard of a doctor doing them. Don't think that's done in the UK.

On a totally side note, does everyone else find the name "Claire's
Accessories" triggers a mental round of Jungle Book music ("Claire's
Accessories, the simple Claire's Accessories...") or is that just me?

LOL. I'll never be able to go pas them again without thinking of that!

Default UPDATE: Ear rings

Breast milk may well have done the trick. I've put it on and twirled the
earring round in it twice since lunch and it's hardly even swollen now. She
thinks it's really funny, and says it feels nicer than TCP too. I'm putting
it on the other ear too.

I gave #1 and #2 a little to drink this evening as they've been wanting to
try it. #1 thought it was lovely. #2 didn't like it but didn't want to say
so. She said "it's almost yummy". She doesn't want any more though.

Thanks for the advice. Hopefully it's sorted now.
Debbie

When I had my belly button done, I went to a piercing studio and IIRC
they used a needle for that. No idea what they did for ears, though, as
I got mine done someplace else.

it seems to be needles for anything but ears, I'd guess the chance of
backsplash from an ear piercing is pretty low.
