Default Cervical changes during ovulation

Hi everyone,

I apologize in advance if this has already been asked. I was looking
through past posts though and couldn't quite find the answer I was
looking for.

Anyway, I am just planning a pregnancy now and am charting my cervial
changes throughout the month (I don't think I have ever discussed
anything so personal on a newsgroup before...this feels strange!).

I have been on the pill for many years so I am totally unfamiliar with
my body right now. I noticed that around days 11- 14 the mucous was
very abundant, wet and slippery but not stringy like everyone said it
would be around ovulation (is this normal?). My cervix did seem very
soft too. In the last couple of days however (I'm now on day 18) I've
found things changing, harder cervix and cloudy mucous (still very wet
though). The problem is that I think I may have started noticing
changes on day 15 but I'm really not sure. Today I am positive that I
must have ovulated at some point though because I feel pretty much like
I did shortly after my last period.

Based on what I have been reading on websites, there should be a
difinte change in the cervix after ovulation. The problem is, that for
me it seemed like it could have taken a few days and now I can't tell
if I actually ovulated on the 14th or not.

Has anyone else found that it took them a few days for the cervix to
change, or is it usually obvious the day right after ovulation?

Hi Shannon--
Are you tracking BBT? That would give you another symptom that would help
you determine if/when you ovulated in collection with the other symptoms.
It should stay in one range during the first half of your cycle and then
jump to a higher range after ovulation, as a result of progesterone
production. Google on BBT charting to learn more.
I had a similar mucous pattern, and even posted when I was worried that I
wasn't seeing the ideal "egg-white" mucous--then it turned out I did get
some of it for one day. But in the meantime, I asked about it here and also
researched on my own and learned that some of the other kinds are or can be
fertile too. If you're getting anything in any combination of
watery/clear/slippery/stretchy at about the right time, these can all be
fertile mucous. Even the milky/creamy stuff can be (the runnier the
better). Also, look up the use of cough medicine with guaifenesin for
helping mucous (I'm not kidding. I though it was weird too, but there
appears to be an accepted body of knowledge on this).
About cervical changes, I personally found it easier to distinguish position
(high - low, front - back) than consistency. And even position was
something I was less sure about until it became clearly more difficult to
reach. It did take a few days to reverse course again after ovulation. I
think both position and consistency have "transition" periods before and
after ovulation.
Finally--definitely remember that it's perfectly normal for this all to be a
little wonky when coming off the pill. I am in the same place (first cycle
off, 2nd half of cycle) and had lots of similar questions. It helped to be
reminded that 1) it could take a few moths to get used to tracking and
interpreting your body signs, and 2) it can take a while for your body to
get back to whatever its natural pattern is, so even the signs you're
tracking might might be inconsistent for a while. It's okay.
Do check out the BBT stuff-it helps fill out the picture.
Best of luck,
