Another neonate dies after Hepatitis B vaccination

Another newborn passed away Wednesday in Ho Chi Minh City after a routine
inoculation with Hepatitis B vaccine from the Republic of Korea, with two
neonates dying under similar circumstances in late April.
The fatality, the third in a row within two weeks, prompted the Ministry of
Health to issue an emergency directive calling for a nationwide halt of the
vaccine's circulation.

The fatal vaccines in HCMC and two others in central Thanh Hoa province were
reportedly bought from the same distributor, but were from different lots.

Health authorities said further tests would be conducted to pinpoint the
exact causes of deaths.

The vaccine, sponsored by UNICEF, has been administered to over 4 million
neonates in Vietnam without incident, the ministry said.

Which is an incredible safety record. One case in four million goes
awry. What other thing in life could claim such success?
