stretch marks on growing tween
My friend swears it's normal, and I have a call into the pediatrician, but I
figured I'd ask anyhow. If you have a daughter who is in the midst of her puberty growth spurt, did she get stretch marks? DD has them on her butt, thighs, boobs, and sides. She's very thin, at 5'3 she weighs about 108, but she's growing pretty quickly right now, and I am wondering it the stretch marks are going to be permanent or transitory. I understand that stretch marks are caused by growth that is faster than the skin can keep up with, but my pregnancy stretch marks are a permanent factor on my body and I would hope that at 11 DD's will disappear. Anyone? Marjorie |

At 43, they are very very faded. Jeanne |

DD has them on her butt, well, I don't have a daughter who is old enough for that, but - I carry stretch marks on my own boobs from their growth spurt which happened when I was about 17 years old. They never went away, but they are so very very very faint that you really have to be up close and personal to notice them. -- hillary israeli vmd http://www.hillary.net "uber vaccae in quattuor partes divisum est." not-so-newly minted veterinarian-at-large |

Anyone? Marjorie I developed rapidly at the age of 13 and I'm very busty. I got stretch marks on my breasts and on my hips at that time. They faded very slowly to a faint thready look. Banty |

stretch marks on growing tween
I have a twelve year old daughter who developed breasts in a very short time
span. She went from nothing to something that turns adolescent heads in about five months. I noticed very faint stretch marks on her and became concerned since my own pregnancy stretch marks have not faded well. I have encouraged her to use vitamin E cream or cocoa butter cream. She looked at me as if I was a bit perverted to be encouraging her to rub lotion on her breasts! I think it is very normal; would like to hear your pediatrician's advice. stretch marks on growing tween
Marjorie, I gained a bunch of weight right about age 11-12 when I was
"developing" and I got lovely purple stretch marks on my hips and on my breasts to a lesser extent. I remember it being upsetting and confusing because my mom kept saying this shouldn't be happening (but what the heck was I supposed to do about it?). They didn't go away but certainly did fade as time went on. One positive aspect I found is that when you get pregnant, it's one less thing to have to stress about: you don't have to worry about getting stretch marks because you already have them and they're already faded so they look better than everybody else's. I suppose that's small comfort to your DD at this stage of the game, though. :-( Heidi |

stretch marks on growing tween
Hate to tell you, but stretch marks are forever, and they have both a
genetic and a hormonal element to them. Your daughter's will fade to silvery lines, but won't ever go away. It is common to get them on hips, breasts - and a lot of boys get them in the small of their backs (my husband is almost 50 and you can see them on him). In adolescence I got them on my right hip. Go figure. Nothing different about my right hip from my left hip (I am symmetrical and didn't grow one hip and then the other !) - but I only got them on the right, and at 47, you can still see them - rows of silvery marks. Then flash ahead to my three pregnancies. I got to be the size of a beached whale each time, and went into the overtime innings each time, but I have NO stretch marks from pregnancy - even though I am quite clearly capable of getting them. My mother never got any from pregnancy either. Must be some wierd hormonal thing. Mary G. |
