My sister-in-law is Lorell, nicknamed Lori.

They've never explained how they came up with the nickname of Rory for
Lorelei the youngest, but it might be something like "she couldn't pronounce
her L's" so it became Rory instead of Lori. Who knows.

There are actually 3 characters named Lorelei -- the grandmother, the
daughter, and the daughter's daughter. The grand daughter goes by Rory,

but
I think her given name was Lorelei. The main character, Lorelei, and her
daughter Rory, have a very close mother daughter bond, as Rory was born

when
Lorelei was 16. Lorelei and her mother do not get along well.

Thanks for explaining it all to me. At least she sounds like a nice

character.

You need not come up with a nickname that's a part of her first name at all,
I didn't choose my daughter's nickname ahead of time, I just called her
"Lolly" from the beginning... maybe because I have a sweet tooth :-)

This is true . . . I even thought of Lolly as a cute nickname for Lorelei,
except for the unfortunate fact that our last name is Sholly. :-)

At least, if #5 is a girl, I can rest assured her name will NEVER become
popular, since John is absolutely insisting that we name her Lorelei.

Like the Mom on Gilmore Girls?
Em..you could be wrong on popularity there...

Alpha, I know you tried to warn me and are probably saying "I told you
so", but so far, no one has tried to spell it "Eamon" and when they
ask where we came up with the name, they have never heard of the
"Eamon" spelling either, so I don't think we would've done much better
that way.

No, we hardly ever come across someone who knows the name. I guess we both
get to tell the story of the name every time someone new comes along. :-)
But you know, I think the Aamon spelling looks nicer than Aemon.

I'm guessing neither of you have a noticeable Irish population near you
then? Eamon is a completely normal name in Boston and in Ireland and the
UK, it can also be spelled Eamonn.

I know about that now from people on here. I don't watch t.v. myself so it was
news to me.

Sorry I should have read further down before I jumped in, I've only
watched that show once or twice the mother character is way too sappy
for my taste but the name stuck with me.

Our Eamon was born in Providence, RI -- didn't often have people recognize
the name there. We lived in Boston prior to living in Providence; I'm
certain people there would have known the name.

I may just be confused but all the meanings I have seen for Ann, Anna,
Hannah and simular mean Graceful. What toilet, bodily parts meaning does
Anna have?

has anyone ever thought maybe you should have named your baby another
name. OR were you 100% happy with the one you picked?

I love Chloe, but I also loved Olivia too. and melanie, AND
Victoria...lol....but I stuck with Chloe because I have been calling her
chloe for months now, I could'nt imagine her anyother name, but i did
wonder if I chose the right one, they should give you more
time....lol...

I'm not sorry, i think she even looks like a chloe..;-))))

anyone else?

neither of us love DD's name, it was a compromise because alot of names I
liked had awful meanings in his parents language (Iranian) I liked names
with Anna, Johanna, and Kira.... but they have toilet or bodily parts as
meanings.... so we both agreed on Sarah Grace but then changed it

thinking
the other liked it better...turns out we both preferred Sarah...too late
now,

same for DS's name, hard to find something we both didn't mind and it had
some meaning in Persian without sounding middle eastern...neither of us

love
his name either and who knows if it will suit him....
We also have a long and strange last name so I chose easy popular names

to
compensate...
Alissa
