Can I be fairly certain that it was a negative result, and that what I saw
was an evaporation line?

I'd take another one.

With the first test I took for ds there was no line after 2 mins.
Because I was at work I didn't chuck it in the bin but kept it. For
some mad reason I checked it a few hours later and it was positive. 2
other tests said the same. Ds is now nearly 14 months.

did scan give the same due date as what you expected? if it didn't, it could
actually have been a true negative with a brand that turns postivie if left
too long, or it could have turned after 3 mins, you never know with that
time lag!

The first scan it showed a week older than I had calculated. The next
scan went back to how I had calculated. As ds was 6 days late I was
spot on. I tested right around my period due date and as the other test
the next day was positive I'm pretty sure it was right. But as you say,
impossible to say really.

exactly! I never looked again at the two negatives I had and though my dates
were fairly different from my LMP date, the 2nd test was probably late
enough with some brands, then as the actual positive test was in hospital, I
never saw a blue line for that pregnancy :-(. Did you keep the test or take
pictures? Never occured to me to do that first time, but I wish I had and
then never got the chance 2nd time, with the above palava.

I didn't keep the test or take pictures. It was a bit of a saga as the
second test (of a 2 pack) failed to work. I had overnight still not
knowing. I bought a digital one the next day which I did at work, but
jut to be totally sure and to have something to show dp I did an
ordinary one at home too. Poor dp! I had told him it could take up to a
year to get pg - the first time it took 1 cycle and the second time 1
cycle after it returned to normal from the mc - which was 3 months. So
both times I was more concerned about breaking it to him .

Well, what I was wondering about is the posibility of an evaporation line.
But I read that an evaporation line is gray. This line is blue. I don't
know. I'm freaking out. I'm heading out to buy a First Response tonight.
I can't wait until tomorrow.

So what's the verdict?
