I am probably just "over reacting" to this, but size height and weight has
begun to bother me with the twins. I hear it everywhere I go and I'm either
getting very irritated with the people or just thinking I'm strange.
Granted the twins were 9 weeks early, weighing in at 2 lbs 13 oz and 3 lbs
12 oz, so they were small to begin with. The pediatrician says Ashleigh is
in the + range according to her age. Austin is STILL in the - range
according to his age. When he went to the ped for a sick visit over a week
ago, he had lost 2 lbs. 18 month check up he was 20 lbs on the nose. He
eats like a horse and poops like one too! Ashleigh was a pound less at her
sick visit. At 18 month check up she was 23 and 1/4 lbs.

What are your 19 month olds weighing in at? Where they premature?

Am I crazy or do I have reason to be concerned?

Take care,
God Bless,

I would think as long as they are following their growth curve, they are
right on track. My twins are 11 months old and they were born at 33 weeks.
My 6 year old was a 30 weeker. I also have a 12 and 13 year old. People
will comment on my twin girls as I have heard everything from "Wow, they are
tiny!" to..."They are HUGE for having been preemies!" I have come to the
conclusion that people in general, don't know when in the heck they are
talking about. ;-)

I used to be really sensitive about comments made regarding my 6 year old.
Eventually, I just learned to trust my pediatrician and tune out the rest.

I have a lot of comments about my 6 months old too. Like "Wow, they're big
for twins !!!" Well...the thing is Héloïse who was born at 38w4d was
smaller than Alexandre and a little bigger than Caroline, both being born at
37w3d.So there's no big difference. Actually at 6 months, Alexandre is only
a little bit smaller and lighter than Héloïse and Caroline is significantly
smaller but they ARE both in the 50/75th percentile (50 for Caroline and 75
for Alexandre).
But where people would tell me 'She's a big baby" for their older sister, I
only get that twin comment about them..

Yes!

When something happens to worry you like your kid doesn't eat for a week
because they have flu yadda yadda. People have this habit of jumping
and blaming you!

No, you're not crazy, but I agree with the others... as long as they
are following their own curve, and the doc isn't worried, you probably
have no cause for concern.

I just looked it up, and at my girls' 18 month well visit, Cassie was
31 inches and 21 lbs, and Olivia was 33.25 inches and 23 lbs, and
neither of them has ever had an illness that caused weight loss (knock
on wood). They were 14 weeks premature and weighed under 2 lbs at
birth and have always been kind of skinny for their height. Cassie
didn't even get on the growth chart until she was 15 months old, and
then it was the 3rd percentile :-)

People should just keep their mouths shut.

My b/g twins are 15 months and were born at 26 weeks (1 lb 15 oz, and 2 lb 3
oz). At their 12 month they were 16-1/2 lbs, and 17-1/2 lbs. My girl is
bigger than the boy. I have their 15 month appt this wednesday, so I will
let you know what they weigh in at. They say that they do not catch up
until 2-3 years in developmental areas, and I am assuming that is the same
for physical areas as well. I am not worried about my kids size. They fell
in the Less than 3rd percentile at their 12 month.

Anyway, if they are eating well (and it sounds like they are) and if the
doctor feels they are healthy, you just have to figure that kids come in all
shapes and sizes. (Is the doctor concerned?)

My 3 year old daughter is just 25 pounds and pretty tiny. Some people
comment on her size. If she was obese noone would say anything about her
size for fear of offending or hurting us. But people seem to have no
problem commenting if a child is small.

I have twins who are 6 years old. They were born at 28 wks. They
weighed 2lbs 2 oz and 2lbs 4.5 oz. They are now only 30lbs 41in and
29lbs 41.5in. They just got on the charts. I wouldn't worry. Mine
took awhile to catch up and it sounds like yours are doing even better
then mine did.

WOW! I thought my 6 1/2 year olds were small. Well, Matthew anyway.
He has always been the smallest. The triplets were born 9 weeks early
weighing 3 lbs 6 oz, 3 lbs 7 oz and 2 lbs 4 oz. Matthew (2#4 at birth)
is 42 lbs. Brandon is (3#6) 49 lbs and Ashley (3#7)is 58 lbs. I never
thought Brandon and Ashley were small for their age, but Matthew yes.
Actually, Ashley is a little chunker. As you see - they will be very
very different before long.
