Default water-filled teethers?

I remember "water" filled teething rings that had a floating animal inside
each "bubble". I think they probably weren't really water filled since I
think they didn't really freeze hard, so maybe they've been taken off the
market? I've been looking for one since I think Madi would like something
soft to gum, but can't find them anywhere! Should I keep searching or is it
one of those "oops! That'll kill ya!" kind of thing?

I've found water filled teethers (no little animals, though) in the Target
baby section. We keep a few in the fridge all the time so Alli has somehting
cold to chew on. I don't freeze them-since they're filled with distilled
water, they probably would freeze to ice.

Hmm, target.com doesn't have what I'm looking for....it's a clear ring of
soft plastic with a clear liquid inside (may be water, not sure).
I'm going to my parents this wknd and they have a target, so maybe I'll try
in person. Thanks!

The 'First Years' teethers were recently (January 2006) recalled due to
bacteria -- the CPSC mailing list (free!) is a great alert for recalled
toys.

The earlier teethers (in Target) have been pulled due to PVCs, and
afaik are being reformulated without plasticizers, although there's no
clear consensus on whether phthalates (in the PVC teethers) are indeed
harmful. Teethers made in the EU, which have banned phthalates, may be
a better bet albeit tricker to find.

Then again, I'm so cheap that I always went with a washcloth soaked in
water....

We get something like that here in NZ, Tommee Tippee put them out and they
only cost a few dollars. If you can't get one, let me know and I'll send you
a new one I have.
