Default need source for breast milk storage bags

Well, my little Madi (10wks) has started daycare and despite the fact that
she generally refused to take a bottle from me or my husband (but would take
one from my mom when I was away), she's doing great with the bottle at
daycare! Although, she will only take it from the head infant teacher but
we're hoping she'll learn to take it from others too.
Anyway, I'm realizing how many storage bags I'm going to be using! I've
been buying them at my local Kmart ($5.99 for 25 Gerber or Lansinoh), but
went to buy some today and they were all out. Must've bought out their
stock all by myself! Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone knows an online
supplier that is as inexpensive. I'm perfectly willing to buy in bulk as I
have lots of storage space.
Any ideas?
Amy

Yeah!

Once I was back at work, I really didn't use that many storage bags,
since I mostly pumped what my daughter ate. If this helps: I'd pump
into the medela bottles and Monday's milk would get sent to daycare
on Tuesday (transfered to Avent bottles), Tuesday's milk got sent on
Wed. etc. Friday's milk was put into storage bags (4 ounces per bag)
and frozen. Monday I thawed the oldest milk from the freezer. I guess
I used 4-5 bags per week, so a box a month. I'd buy a bunch when
Target had them on sale, but it didn't seem like that many to me.
I never really looked for a cheaper source.

Also, when I first went back to work I seemed to outproduce my daughter
a bit. So I dropped a pumping session relatively quickly and was
just meeting her needs, so that decreased the amount of milk
I was storing.

I'd consider using the Avent bottles to store and only use bags for stuff
that is likely to be in the freezer for longer. A four pack of the small
bottles, with rings and disks is quite reasonably priced, you may need
packs, but I reckon you are likely to be able to manage with those, plus a
small quantity of bags.

In my hunting online I never really found anywhere that was cheaper than the
stores :-(

I just use the ziplock bags - much cheaper, and they can be stored
flat, taking up much less space in the freezer.

You don't say where you are. In Australia, you can buy them through the
Australian Breastfeeding Association, which also rents out pumps.

Amy,

I have hundreds of 4 oz storage bags new in box. I think I have 4 boxes
of 100, but I have to look out in my storage room to be sure. I sold
breastfeeding supplies online in the past, but don't anymore, and they
are left over from that. They are for the Whisper Wear pump
specifically, but they will store milk from any pump. I will sell them
for $14 per 100 bag box if you'd like. They cost me wholesale $13 a
box plus shipping. Let me know at clerk at alittlestore dot com if you
are interested.

Amy, I bought Playtex Milk Storage bags (it's actually part of their
nursing system, but I use the bags by themselves) at Walmart. Their 6
ozs each, but you really can't store more than 4 ozs in them, or the
milk will spill when you twisty-tie them. They are pre-sterilized
(which was why I bought them, it's a huge plus for me), and cost about
$4 for a roll of 100 bags. It seemed like the best cost vs returns for
the money to me. Check your local Walmart.

did they freeze ok? I've had problems with lots of brands of bags, including
Avent, which are single ply, these days if I end up putting milk in the
freezer, I triple bag! but it does work, I got a bag out this week from the
beginning of December and it was fine.

I think there was someone here who used the smaller Ziploc baggies to store
hers in.

you mean in a cheap breastmilk bag, then the ziploc? I heard they are made
of different types of plastic or something. Anyway here ziploc isn't widly
available so it's probably cheaper to triple bag with Avent than to use a
ziploc!
