I disagree that the numbers are meaningless.

If I put the baby on the scale and he weighs 10 lbs, and then he nurses,
and I put him back on the scale and he weighs 10 lbs 4 oz, then he has
taken in 4 oz of milk. This is undeniable. It makes no difference if he
has urinated or defecated - he's wearing a diaper.

Certainly, if I weighed the baby, and then changed his diaper, and fed
him, and changed him again, and then weighed him, the numbers might not be
useful, but - I wouldn't do it that way!
