Default Constant sniffing

My 7y/o ds is constantly sniffing. It is driving us bananas. We
think it is a habit because he does it whether he has had allergy
medicine or not. I desperately need ideas to get him to stop. Please
Help!!!!!!

Perhaps the allergy medicine isn't enough to stop the drainage. He probably
cannot help it. I know I constantly have to clear my throat because of the
drainage. And I am on allergy medicine. Have your allergist or doctor have
another look and tell him about the constant sniffing.

You also might want to try a different allergy medication. I know several
people who say claritin won't work for them but others like zyrtec do. I
found, however, that zyrtec made my son very cranky. There are also some
nasal sprays that I think are approved for children like nasalcrom. My
husband has to use it on top of oral allergy medication during the peak
pollen periods so it may be that the particular allergen doesn't respond to
the antihistimine.

You might also want to consider tics. Does he have any other things that he
does on a consistant basis? Is he on medication for ADHD? My son had a bout
of sniffing at the same age that turned out to be a tic. One of many types
of tics associated with ADHD meds. It's possible, so if your child fits this
description, check it out with your psychopharm.

He doesn't sniff at all when he is asleep. I don't know if that means
anything or not.

I'm sorry if this posts twice, but I haven't seen it post yet.

I don't know if this means anything or not, but he doesn't sniff at
all when he is sleeping.
