Car seat ?
I have never bought into the "one car seat to get us all the way through"
theory, primarily because it seems to me that the kids are going to have some *horrible* events (vomit, diarrhea ...) and the idea of them sitting in the same seat with a liner that can't be removed for thorough washing for 7 years or so (our local law is soon to be booster until 8 yrs and 80lb) seems, well, disgusting. What am I missing? Do these fancy $200 car seats come apart for washing? --Janet Elliot, Hanna, Connor (10/21/96) and Holly (4/4/01) |

Um, I'm certainly not an expert on the topic nor have I researched every brand. With my limited knowledge, I am very opinionated that infant seats are better for infants and so on. All the national research sites that I've found (maybe 4 or 5 over the last two car seat purchases) strongly recommend staying away from these convertible seats that go for nearly every age. Now, what I read led me to believe that this does not nix the convertible seats that go approx up to age 3 or those that go for the approx age of 1 - 5, etc. The ones I read such strong comments about were the booster seats that start at the approx ages 2 or 3 or the using a car seat that goes from 0lbs to 80lbs for an infant/rear-facing position due to the size of the seat not being the safety premium for the youngest of children. No flying sticks or stones, everyone All I know is what I read and it made a lot of sense to me. I personally chose an infant carrier then a car seat for up to 40lbs. Now I'm looking for a non-booster seat for up to 65lbs. I also figure that the standards and advancements increase all the time, so I want the most up-to-date and safest thing I can get my hands on. I've heard lots of comments about how it's too expensive, etc. However, there are LOTS of brands out there at varying costs and if there is one area where you can't afford to not to ensure safety it's this, I think.
