Silicon tends to flake less easily than rubber, so would give that a try and if he still chews holes in the pacifier then maybe he will give it up on his own because it will not "feel right". We literally searched the world for replacements (Tokyo. Hong Kong. London. New York. And this was before the Net.) Later I saw a silicone rubber one that looked similar, so I got it; but it didn't "taste" the same. Then we explained that they weren't available any more, and the Kid was quite reasonable about it.
