Helen Hunt: It's a Girl!

The Oscar-winning thesp and her mate, writer-producer Matthew
Carnahan, welcomed a baby girl into the world May 13 in Los Angeles,
her publicist confirmed Friday.

Named Makena' lei Gordon Carnahan, the little tyke weighed in just
under 6 pounds and was three weeks early. Her first name comes from a
town in Maui, Hawaii, and her middle name is from Hunt's father, TV
director Gordon Hunt.

"Both Helen and the baby are great, perfectly healthy," a source close
to the actress told People magazine.

News of the impending bundle of joy was announced in February by the
former Mad About You star and boyfriend Carnahan (Fastlane).

The showbiz duo has been an item since 2001. It's the first child for
Hunt, who was married to actor Hank Azaria from 1999 to 2000 (after
years of couplehood), and the second child for Carnahan.

Little Makena' lei's arrival was well-timed since mommy just wrapped
two movies, HBO's Empire Falls, in which she costars with Paul Newman
(news), Robin Wright Penn (news) and Ed Harris (news), and the drama A
Good Woman, opposite Scarlett Johansson (news) and Tom Wilkinson
(news).

Carnahan, meanwhile, was the man behind Fox's flashy series Fastlane,
starring Tiffani Thiesen and Peter Facinelli (news), which was
canceled after a short run in 2002. He also produced and created the
defunct John Stamos (news) crime drama Thieves for ABC in 2001 and
Rudyland, a documentary on former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Seems like this is the new trend, naming babies after places, especially
the place you did the nasty to conceive said baby.

Please excuse the quality. It is under construction and I am still

I don't think my twins would have appreciated being called Worce and Ster.

LOL. That's what I was thinking. I guess it's all very well for people who
spend a lot of time in exotic places but . . . well, Emily would have been
names Alexandria, which is nice enough, but Knoxville, Knoxville, Knoxville,
and Knoxville would get pretty boring. I guess we could name #5 New Mattress.

Well I guess a place name is better than "Sofa".
