Help Low HCG Levels!
Well, thanks for everyone's support. I did have a m/c before my
sonogram on Friday. Wednesday evening I started spotting. I went to the doctor and got blood work taken again. The numbers had started to decrease. My doctor didn't think I needed a D&C because it was so early. How do they determine if you need one? And is it true I wouldn't? Thanks again, Michelle |

Help Low HCG Levels!
I don't remember how far along you were, but anything under 5-6 weeks is not
much heavier than a regular period, so shouldn't need a D&C. I have 6 very early miscarriages, all between 4-5 weeks, and never had any problem passing the "products of conception." I also had 2 blighted ovums, which meant that the heart never started to beat. I had a D&C for one at 8+ weeks, and allowed the other to pass on it's own. We found out that the pg wasn't viable at 7 and again at 8 weeks, and I finally miscarried at 10 weeks. I didn't need a D&C for that one either. Hugs. I'm sorry for your loss. -- Jamie & Taylor Earth Angel, 1/3/03 Check out Taylor Marlys -- www.MyFamily.com, User ID: Clarkguest1, Password: Guest Become a member for free - go to Add Member to set up your own User ID and Password Check out our Adoption Page at http://home.earthlink.net/~jamielee6 "DylansMom" wrote in message om... I'm so sorry for your loss {{{{Michelle}}}}. Please take it easy. No, you don't always need a D&C. I had my three m/c's all the natural way, even the one at 10w. I preferred it that way and was glad I didn't have to go into a hospital. They can monitor hCG levels and do an u/s afterwards to see if your uterus is clean. If the hCG reaches a plateau, chances are some residual matter is left in the uterus and you'll need a D&C. In that case you will also keep losing blood long after you've expelled the embryo and placenta. If you haven't miscarried yet, be prepared that it can be a painful and very intense experience. Cramps can be much worse than for a normal period, and blood loss at times can be heavy. But you will notice that it all starts to get better at a point (in my case ~2 days). If it doesn't, you should get in touch with your doctor. Also be prepared that the full emotional blow might not come until after you've miscarried. Do take a lot of time for yourself, you will need to heal both physically and mentally. -- -- I mommy to DS (July '02) mommy to three tiny angels (28 Oct'03, 17 Feb'04 & 20 May'04) guardian of DH (33) |
