Default CTTD -- with a calculator

It's a new generation I guess...

There was a calculator at the preschool today. Some of the little ones (2's)
were playing with it. They were punching the buttons, then holding it to their
ears and saying "Hello Mommy!"

We have computer keyboards (not attached to anything) and several
calculators the kids can play with.

When Shaina was a toddler (this would have been, like 8-9ish years ago) and we
would watch Sesame Street, they used to have spots where a typewriter would be
shown typing out a letter and a voice would then say the letter. Shaina would
watch the spot and say out loud "Computer!"

I do think ours know the difference between calculators and phones
though.

They have several disconnected real phones to play with

We have phones in the preschool too. Both a regular toy desk phone and the
handset from a real, but no-longer-functional cordless phone.

(Our 4 year old seemed to know it was a calculator and have a vague idea of
what it was supposed to do, since he asked he how it worked, and I showed him
how to do some simple addition on it.)

There are a lot of adults who do the same thing with their hand held
computers. Of course, the difference is that the handheld work as phones.

When my son was a baby, he always wanted to play with the TV remote (yep, he
knew what it was for). Tired of the at-random channel-changing, I gave him a
calculator. He pointed and clicked it.

Tee hee.
