Kinda OT- BC after birth/ Copper iud
My OB asked us about birth control after baby, at my last visit. I cannot
take "the pill" because I have a blood clotting risk (factor V) I tried taking depo about 2 years ago and it was HORRIBLE. I'm not sure if it was the progestin that made me so sick, but if it was that leaves out the mini-pill and the hormonal iud. My husband wants to "get fixed" and, although we will have 2 kids... we're only 22... I think we're too young to rule out more kids. Anyway, my question is.. has anyone had the copper IUD? What were your experiences? I just can't imagine an experience like I had with the depo. TIA. -- Jami Momma to: Jordan 07.30.01 EDD 08.21.04 |

She seemed in favor of it.. on thing I forgot to mention is that she had a C-Section and HATED it so if I get transfered to her I know she would only do a csection as last resort! That is nice since I like her about = to my midwife She wants me to gain more weight though.. I dont know how I have icecream almost every day and that isnt helping!.. lol Tori -- Bonnie 3/20/02 Xavier due 10/17/04 |

IUD's can be very good and work well, but like all forms of birth control
except abstinance, there is a slight chance of failure resulting in pregnancy. My daughter is an IUD baby, luckily enough for me, but not for her birthmother... -- Jamie & Taylor Earth Angel, 1/3/03 Check out Taylor Marlys -- www.MyFamily.com, User ID: Clarkguest1, Password: Guest Become a member for free - go to Add Member to set up your own User ID and Password Check out our Adoption Page at http://home.earthlink.net/~jamielee6 "Tori M." wrote in message ... Anyway, my question is.. has anyone had the copper
IUD? What were your experiences? I have a copper-T and like it very much. It can cause increased bleeding (I don't have that myself, unless you count an additional day or so of spotting before my period starts), and I don't know if that is a problem with the factor V thing. --Helen |

there is this new device called Miridia (sp)...It is kind of an IUD but not.
You can keep it in for 5 years. It blocks the sperm from entering the cervix. We were going to do it after this baby but have decided not to. hubby is going to get fixed. We have decided that 2 kids is enough. But that can all change after the baby is born. Ask your dr about this. kay Eva 09/02/2002 one on way 01/2005 "Rob and Jami" wrote in message ... I have the Mirena, which is plastic and has *tiny* amounts of progestin (I think) in it, which is released locally (not systemic), which decreases your bleeding. I've not had any sickness from it at all. The only drawback - my husband gets poked by the strings occasionally. Cathy Weeks Mommy to Kivi Alexis 12/01 |

My daughter and I have blood clotting issues (Factor VIII and VonWillebrand's Factor), and I seem to remember that an IUD would not be OK for us -- increased bleeding and possibly a problem with insertion? I don't know anything about Factor V, though. I'd ask your hematologist which methods are OK for you personally (since there are levels/degrees of severity with many bleeding issues. Most (not all) people don't have the kinds of symptoms with depo. I have gotten pregnant easily since having it out in March. My best friend has the copper coil, and hates it. Why? For me, the Mirena made my periods go mostly away and very light. For her, the copper makes them MUCH heavier. Jenrose |

I had an IUD (a copper 7 thingy) between kids #1 and #2, and the
experience was very positive. I didn't want to take the pill or depo because I was nursing. I hate diaphrams (I'm tipped internally, and they are very, very hard to get in properly). Condoms hubbie has problems with and never mind that all the gells and foams that go with barrier methods are icky. So, we gave the IUD a shot, and I think its a primo method that more women should be trying out. I never even knew the thing was in there. Having it placed was no biggie (barely a pinch, less than a pap). I had no problems at all with it at all. Never had to think about it, no issues. And believe it or not, when we decided to have another baby and I had it removed, I was pregnant a few weeks later (even the doctor was amazed - it came out, I missed the next period - he figured it was due to everything settling down, but it was a baby!! Incidentally, having it removed took 3 seconds, and also no biggie. If you look at the satisfaction rates for women using IUDs, they are extremely high. I was pretty happy with mine. Mary G. |
