What about goat's milk? Can he drink goat's milk
without turning red? Might be worth a try.
I've eaten goat's milk ice cream for years
because there's a nice natural-ingredient
carob flavour one I like, and recently I got up
my courage and tried goat's milk on cereal and
it tasted pretty much just like cow's mlik to
me. I was surprised.

Definitely YMMV. DS was allergic to cow's milk. I bought goat's milk and I
thought it was pretty disgusting.

I don't like it for drinking or cereal, but you can use it as a substitute
for cow's milk in cooking without noticing a difference.

Hi -

Living without milk isn't actually difficult.

Really? I found it extremely difficult. DS had a true allergy and anything
with cow's milk protein was certain to cause a problem. I had a very
restricted diet for some time and it was hard.

My neice has been diagnosed with a severe milk allergy (NOT
intolerance), and, indeed, is finding it extrememly difficult to make
sure she gets nothing with any milk protiens.

However, since she was diagnosed and put on this diet, she's finally
regaining her health. She was, for a time, a VERY sick young lady,
losing over 100 pounds in well under a year. And if she gets any amount
of milk protein, she starts getting sick again, so she's pretty careful.

I've been surprised at how many packaged foods include milk in one form
or another.

Being Chinese makes it easier... I have had
no problems at all eliminating milk products from
my diet, especially if I stick to strictly Asian
fare. Now, when it comes to visiting the in-laws...
well, there I cannot get away from dairy and I
either have to suck it up or not eat anything.

Hi --

Two members of my family are very allergic to milk protein. It's hard
to get used to cooking and shopping milk-free, but no, it's not
difficult to live that way once you get used to it.

My web site offers shopping and cooking tips, starter menus, and links
to other milk-free sites. The starter menus (for those new to milk
allergy) is quite popular, according to visitors. I think that's
because it really IS a challenge to suddenly stop eating things you were
used to and starting all over again at the grocery store, hunting for
yummy things you CAN have ...

Hi --

Most people who are allergic to cow's milk have the same trouble with
goat's milk. But some are okay with it, so as long as the reaction
isn't life-threatening I suppose you could try it...
