There are two ways to answer your post. If you are looking for "dirt" there
are stats like 80% of teen pregnancies girls being raised by single mothers.
Ditto for teen suicides, school dropouts, incarcerations, etc.

But if you are looking at the positive side and want to understand serious
research about the importance of fathers in issues like socialization
skills, emotional development, learning patterns, sexual behavior, etc. go
to:

http://www.childtrends.org/ and click on "projects and research" and then
"research briefs." The briefs are mostly written about children because a
father's presence or absence has similar impacts on both boys and girls.
There are four briefs just on "fatherhood." By typing in "girls" on the
search option you'll get 40+ matches.
