Default a Happy Mothers Day at least

I got a card and a present! yeah! then I did the Sunday roast
and made a bit of a day of it, later went shopping and stopped
for a coffee and cake. We were sitting there and an older guy
came and sat down at our table, the cafe was full in there.
He hadnt a drink so I asked if he was waiting for his wife to
bring it to the table. "No" he said, he had a familar dialect that
I'd not heard in 20 years, "she died a couple of months ago",
"you're waiting for your one of your children?" I asked
"No" he replied "we were married nearly 40 years but we didnt
have any". I didnt know what to say, so I said I was sorry about
his loss, he said his house was so big now without her in it.

It reminded me of my moms house, I didnt want to touch anything
there but I knew I had to. Theres still old boxes of rubbish and
nik-naks and stuff to go through, you know. Thank goodness we
have a place of our own, that the children have somewhere safe
and secure to come home to.

Thank Goodness I have the children,

I'm sure he had many friends and neighbours and other relatives.
We talked about the weather (it's rain storming outside), I was
hoping the weather would be fine today so as to get some plants
in (or ornamental weeds! I keep buttercups and the wild flowers
when I can) Maybe I should cultivate the rose bushes outside
my door, I'm a crap gardener but do so love the smell of roses
on warm days. The herb garden is overgrown, I began it so the
kids had somewhere safe to play in.

Anyway, I miss my mom today, the monotony of complaints
about the state of her health, her pension the world in general
and those flippin squeeky doors. I remind myself that although
she complained too much, quite often she'd stop in midflow
and say
"You know what?"
"Yes! mom?" I'd say (If I hadnt left the phone on the book
shelf and gone to put out the washing)
"I'm proud of you"

luv
