I have to choose between
Ina May Gaskin (talking about the Gaskin Manoeuvre/Vaginal Breech/Twins/Grand Multiparas) AND: Henci Goer ëThe Illusion of Choice in Childbirthí (Terrace Ante Room) Which would you choose?? *sigh* Jo -- Woman, Wife, Mother, Midwife |

Which one will you take away more from, which one will contribute more to making you a better midwife do you think? FWIU, both are good speakers but Henci is better, more cohesive, Ina May tends to be tangential. |

Ina May Gaskin (talking about the Gaskin Manoeuvre/Vaginal

The organisers have still have the cheek to ask the likes of me if we can put people up who are coming! Anne |

Well, Ina May sounds like she's talking about practicalities of birth while Henci is talking about medical politics. What's more important to you at this point? I think I would prefer to find out about vaginal breech and grand multis as a midwife, the other is an interesting topic but not as useful because by the time someone's come to you for their birth they've already made their choices. Heh thanks for the replies, everyone.
The post was more of a tongue-in-cheek brag, but good suggestions! I still haven't decided, though ... Thanks Jo |

My copy of Thinking Woman's Guide is autographed...ooohhhhh....ahhhhhhh LOL!!! Have a great time at the conference!! I'm pretty much completely out of the birth professional world and missing it. I was looking at the DONA 2006 Conference line-up in Denver and drooling. I drove my doulas with Lucy a little bonko because I didn't really ever want to talk about MY birth or my needs but about birth in general and compare stories and helpful hints etc.... |

Homebirth Conference Dilemma
Ina May Gaskin. Jo, you might enjoy some vicarious venting, hearing Henci Goer's polemics, but frankly Ms. Gaskin's topic sounds far more useful. I would want my midwife to choose Ms. Gaskin. I am getting really tired of hearing "of course she had to have a C section, no point to a trial of labor; her twins were breech". Often, the breech condition was observed weeks before the EDD, followed by a cascade of interventions. |
