Creating Positive Initial Learning Experiences The Premise Behind New
Software

Dallas, TX - December 29, 2007 - In 1994, Karl Hall volunteered for a
national mentoring program for disadvantaged kids. As part of his
volunteer work, Hall developed flash cards to help teach the kids to
read. Hall, the son of a day care center owner and kindergarten
teacher, had seen his mother use flash cards to teach her kindergarten
students to read many times in the past. So Hall was confident that
the flash cards would work. Through Hall's flash card teaching
sessions, he observed something very interesting. Hall found that
some of the kids struggled reading almost every word on the flash
cards. However, when he mixed in names of celebrities such as Michael
Jordan, Bill Clinton, Dan Marino, Whoopi Goldberg, Larry Bird, Will
Smith etc., the kids recognized these names almost every time. Based
on this observation, Hall concluded that all of these kids could
learn, but it was a mental block in their perception of learning that
was influencing their performance. "If the kids could not learn, they
would not have been able to learn any of the words, including the
names of the celebrities." "The fact that the kids could learn the
names of the celebrities, but often struggled with much simpler names
such as jump, place, catch, climb, etc. indicated to me that their
subconscious mind and self worth may be at the root of their learning
problems." Hall said.

Fourteen years later, Hall's software company, South Beach Software
has developed a series of software programs to help kids build a
positive image of learning. The software series is called the Smart
Kid Learning Series. The software series was designed to help the
child build confidence and self worth, while learning basic skills.
How is this done? The software creates a positive learning experience
by saying to the child, "You are a smart kid", after each correct
answer.

We wanted to create something that was not just another learning
software program, book or DVD. We wanted to create a product that
would have a positive impact on the rest of the child's life." Hall
said.

The Canadian Government's Early Years Study Report (Ontario Ministry
of Community and Social Services, 1999, p.7) concludes that:

"It is clear that the early years from conception to age six have the
most important influence of any time in the life cycle of brain
development and subsequent learning, behavior and health. The effects
of early experiences, particularly during the first three years, on
the wiring and sculpting of the brain's billions of neurons, last a
lifetime."

The objective of the Smart Kid software series is to create a positive
learning experience that a child can draw on for the rest of their
life.

The Smart Kid Learning Series includes software programs for kids to
learn their ABCs, basic numbers, addition, subtraction, multiplication
and division. Each program provides voice directed lessons aimed at
creating a positive learning experience.

South Beach Software will release future english, math, science and
social studies related modules aimed at teaching children basic skills
and providing them with positive early learning experiences.
