The Birth of Grant/Part 2
Arrrrrgh. Another cliff-hanger. I have an idea, post
the last installment first, and work backwards from there! :-) Larry Joybelle writes: : I woke up rather slowly the morning of my EDD, September 29 after pretty : much a full night's sleep. I had a dream before I woke up. In the dream I : was with my two sisters, and I was having a contraction. I was going to : have the baby! I leaned against my sister and the other one patted my back, : but I had to move. I walked to another part of the room and there was the : baby. It was a girl! I held her and put a bandaid on her back. I then : laid her on a table. I also remember my grandma who passed away two years : ago being present. : I awoke, mulling the dream around in my head, and had a contraction. : Hmmm... I drifted back to sleep. Another contraction woke me up again. I : heard my husband downstairs and decided I better let him know about this : development. It was about 6:20 am when I started downstairs. Spencer, my : two-year-old, woke up as I left the room, and I carried him down with me. I : told Neil I thought I just had two contractions and they seemed kinda : longish. He asked me if he should stay home, and I told him I would call : him if I had more. I guess I wasn't thinking. I look back at this : transaction, and I still can't believe I told him to go to work! My oldest : had to get ready for school, my bag and the baby's bag weren't packed, and : we had to get the other two to Neil's grandparents. The day before Neil's : parents, who were going to be watching the kids in the event I went into : labor, had gone on a camping vacation about an hour away with my blessing. : I was so sure I would make it to 41 weeks, at least. We also had that long : drive ahead ourselves, and I should have really just gotten on the road. : So, Neil went off to work because I didn't want him to stay home on account : of two contractions and my denial. I told him I'd call him in an hour to : let him know if I had anymore contractions or anything else. He left at : 6:30 am. I woke Rose up and told her she needed to get dressed. I had a : couple more contractions and was starting to find them uncomfortable. I : looked at the clock, and it was 6:45. I had so much to do! I dressed : Spencer and kept harassing Rose to hurry up. I hauled down the suitcases I : had packed of the kids and set them by the door. By 7:00 am I decided I : better not wait and hour and called Neil. I only got his voice mail and : left a message. I called my mom, and my dad answered the phone. I told him : that this baby would be coming today, and he woke Mom for me. I told mom : she should probably get ready, and I whined about the contractions hurting : so bad already. I also called my sister who had had her baby 10 days ago : and told her I was in labor. She got really concerned and told me I should : probably hurry when I had a couple of contractions while talking to her and : commented on the fact I was sweating. I also had a hard time talking : through the contractions. Then, I called the hospital to let them know I'd : be on my way, and I finally was able to get ahold of Neil who told me he was : on his way. : Meanwhile, Rose fed Iris, Spencer, and herself. I was useless and feeling : bit panicky about having so much undone. The kids were all dressed and fed : and bored. They didn't care that mom kept yellling at them to quit throwing : that ball. Please.... please.... quit throwing that ball and quit : screaming. It was pretty cute, though, when Spencer would say, "I love you, : Mommy, I love you. My tummy-ache hurts, too, see?" and would point at his : belly. The kids were so excited the baby was coming and they expressed : their excitement with exuberance. LOL : I remember the hospital calling with some question and Neil getting home at : around 7:40. I went upstairs to use the bathroom and noticed some pink on : the tissue. I went to my bedroom to throw my stuff in my bag while he was : carrying the kids' stuff to the van. A contraction hit me, and I leaned : over the bed to work through it. Hot fluid gushed between my legs, and it : dawned on me my water had just broken. It felt so good! I shrieked and : yelled for Rose to come upstairs. She ignored me as I kept calling for her. : I heard Neil tell her to listen to me, so I yelled for him to help me. He : came upstairs and the kids followed him. : "I guess this is it," I said. The understatement of the year. The kids : were quite curious about the water breaking. They thought I had wet my : pants. Neil got me some towels and I gave the kids quick hugs and kisses : goodbye. He left to get Rose to school and drop off Iris and Spencer. It : was only about 7:50. : While Neil was gone, I sat on the bathroom floor on my knees on a heap of : towels. I was really working hard through the contractions and panicking at : the thought of having to deal with contractions like this for many hours : yet. My other labors had been 12-15 hours, and I fully believed I had that : much time. : Time passed very slowly. I felt like it was taking Neil forever to return, : and I kept thinking my mom wasn't going to get there. Neil returned in : about 15 minutes, though. He through the stuff I had set out into my bag. : I worked through the contractions, moaning, and I asked a couple of times : where my mom was. : Mom arrived and I complained about how painful this was and how I couldn't : stand it. She and Neil helped me get some underwear with a depends and some : pants on. We went downstairs and made our way to the van. When I stepped : outside I was hit by how cold it was. It had frozen the night before. The : cold air felt really good and when I lay down in the back of the van with a : bunch of towels under my head, I told Neil to keep the heat off. A very : unusual request from chilly ol' me. : We were on the road at around 8:30 am, and I was in full-blown labor. : More to come in Part 3. My kids won't let me finish typing, so it might be : a bit! : -- : Joy : Rose 1-99 : Iris 2-01 : Spencer 3-03 : Grant 9-05 |

No, I think a better idea is to write it all down in Word, then don't post
it until you have it all done -- that way, you can take your sweet time in writing it, and post it in 1, 2 or 3 "fell swoops!" : ) I'm loving it though, and am on the edge of my seat. -- Jamie Earth Angels: Taylor Marlys, 1/3/03 -- My Big Girl, who started preschool, and loved it! wrote in message ... Arrrrrgh. Another cliff-hanger. I have an idea, post the last installment first, and work backwards from there! Sorry, Larry! I did send off the third and last part now. One has to write in installments when there are constant interruptions from kids! My plan was to write the whole thing at night after they'd gone to bed, but for some reason I keep falling asleep on the couch. -- Joy Rose 1-99 Iris 2-01 Spencer 3-03 Grant 9-05 |
