Had my little one this morning
Just wanted to let you know Quentin Petrus was born at home this
morning weighing in at a whopping 9 lbs 9 oz, just one day before his due date. He did have a hard time coming out but the midwives knew what to do and helped him out with their hands. Considering his size and the fact that I had two hands in there, it's pretty amazing I didn't need any stitches. He needed a bit of oxygen but got his colour back very quickly. I had laboured actively for 5 hours in the birthing pool before my midwife decided to rupture the membranes, as I wasn't dilating beyond 6 cm. Then it was another hour and twenty minutes of labour and 11 minutes of pushing on all fours and we were done. I must say the Hypnobirthing relaxation technique helped me a lot once again. At no point did I regret choosing a drug-free birth, even though it was not an easy one. By focusing on my breathing and one contraction at a time, I was able to get through it without losing my cool. It all happened in silence until the pushing stage, so I'm pretty pleased with myself! Thank you all for your support and answers to all of my panicked questions prior to the birth! |

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm so pleased you went with your instincts and managed to have a successful homebirth! And congratulations on a drug free birth too - it's not easy, but I think if you can do it, it's the best way to go. And, of course, welcome to baby Quentin! What a big boy he is!! Love to you all Lucy x "Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward" wrote in message oups.com... Thank you all for your support and answers to all of my panicked questions prior to the birth! He was born the same day as my Spencer. Four years ago, after laboring in a pool, membranes being ruptured, he emerged a robust 10 pounder. Awesome. To read your story, it sends me right back! Other than the silence (I was loud!) there were many similarities. Congratulations to you!!! Joy |

Had my little one this morning
just the news I was waiting to here!
you say difficult, but do you just mean slow to emerge, or was there a SD that needed a manouvere to be performed? (and another question, if it was just slow, then 11 minutes does not sound slow, or was there are delay before descent occured?) You may want to raise with your midwife if you have a time to debrief, that oxygen is no longer recommended for early resucitation of babies. Congratulations, job well done! Anne |
