Getting through the first few months with twins
Just to answer your question, as has already been posted, there are
two main schools of thought: demand feeding vs. PDF (parent-directed feeding). Most people here seem to fall into the former category; my wife and I fell into the latter. It worked great for us and we credit it for allowing us to have some sort of sanity. However, when I posted my opinion here, several months later, some people posted info which was critical of the Ezzos (authors of the "Baby Wise" series of books, which advocate PDF). Although those criticisms seem valid and concern me, I'm not willing to throw the baby out with the bathwater and give up on PDF, as it worked great for us. As they say, individual results may vary. |

Getting through the first few months with twins
I am one of those staunch Ezzo-loathers, but I have to point out that being
anti-Ezzo is just not the same thing as being anti-schedule. My threesome were on a schedule from Day One and to be honest they remained so til they were about five ... and I mean YEARS, not months. :-) There is nothing wrong with scheduling -- what is wrong is failing to be flexible. Our schedule was "4 hours"; but looking back it was really more like 1.5 and 2.5 since feeds actually went: 7am feed, burp, change, feed, burp, play, mini nap (maybe 10-15 mins) 8:30 or 8:45 finish bottle, burp 9 or 9:15 back in crib for "real" nap 11am feed, burp, change, feed, burp, play, mini nap (maybe 10-15 mins) .... and so on round the clock. If it was a 4oz (120 cc) bottle, btw, that last little bit might be 20-30cc or so that they would just drain in one go, or nearly so. It never occurred to us at the time that this was "another feeding" and it never occurred to us that because they refused to finish that little bit during the first cycle we should consider them "done" or refuse to feed them it a little bit later. We just assumed that they needed a break before their dessert. To the OP: It occurs to me therefore that you might, to spread out the feedings a little, also try giving them a teensy final nip just before you put them down for their nap. Consider it dessert, not another feeding -- remember, a lot of survival is in the attitude. :-) HTH. --Janet Elliot, Hanna, Connor (10/21/96) and Holly (4/4/01) "Middletree" wrote in message om...
