dentist visit story
It isn't the toys in the office that makes a "pedodontist" good. They have
to be board certified to put that shingle outside. Board certification means that they learn more about "tooth development" from the get go, know when to have you seek help and know how to work around kids. I've seen dentists hold kids down (not pedodontists), I've seen a whole lot of bad things that dentists have done to kids and certainly not taken the time to work with the parents either. Kathleen and Chris will go to a pedo guy until they are well past their teens. Shirley "Seth Jackson" wrote in message ... My next door neighbor has her son sedated because he freaks out so bad and I can see us doing that. When we try for a haircut he has a complete MELTDOWN. Anyway, good for Jake. I hope it works for us at the same age We took our kids for their first visit last month, shortly after they turned 4. We chose a pediatric dentist, although, other than the toys they kept in the office, I'm not sure how much different it was than a regular dentist. Still, the kids did well. They allowed the staff to take X-rays, to clean their teeth, and to give them a fluoride treatment. I was pleasantly surprised by the total lack of freak-out on their part. -- -Seth Jackson, proud father of Derek and Mariel(10/1/99). I tell you what Shirley, our pediatric dentist is "da bomb". Beyond the
certification, he had just the right words, attitude, everything that was necessary to get Jake to trust him. Not one toy or decoration or even the tv on the ceiling was able to do what that man did. It's a true calling. I really respect him and am grateful I got his name from a friend. Stephanie Jake and Ryan 9/3/99 |

Jake already qualifies as a bigger man than me!
"GandSBrock" wrote in message ... I just wanted to share. I took Jake to the dentist yesterday to get a filling. He had a hole in his tooth from the way it was formed, no cavity yet, but they wanted to fill it. So anyway, this is his second filling. He did awesome!! He jumped right up on the chair and didn't cry one bit and cooperated fully! I didn't even have to sit with him! Not only that, they gave him a little hand mirror and he watched the whole thing (except the needle part - the dentist's arm got in the way - probably on purpose!). He watched the drilling, the filling, - everything! He would move that little mirror so he could get a better view. I was stunned! The receptionist said that some kids feel better if they can see what's going on. Meanwhile, my DH wouldn't even be able to handle being in the same room while it's happening to Jake. LOL! I'm so proud of him. What a trooper! Stephanie Jake and Ryan 9/3/99 |

Kathleen and Chris will go to a pedo guy until they are well past their teens. My kids go to a pediatric dentist. I don't like him very well, but the kids love him. We do have to have V sedated because of her oral aversion, but that's getting better. She allows us to brush and floss her teeth fully, and has been doing so for months - I expect her to need sedation one more time, and maybe not at all after that. This yahoo told me I needed to wean my daughter (then age 2 1/2) because the milk would give her cavities. I note he didn't tell me to quit feeding her cow's milk or juice....just breastmilk. True, she had cavities, but there have been no more since we really got serious about the brushing and flossing. I think he just thought extended breastfeeding was ooky. He based his recommendation on a study that involved fewer than 20 children. After that, I just didn't tell him she nursed anymore. We brushed better, end of problem. But the kids do love going in. They talk about the dentist for weeks and sometimes months after, and ask when they get to go again. --angela |
