After that, it's your decision whether or not you want to keep fighting in
the mud with this pig.

Pssst, Ron-- If you are an English teacher, you should know to omit "or not"
when
only "whether" will do. Inotherwords (I borrowed that from Dubya), "....it's
your decision
whether you want to keep fighting." Actually, I'm not crazy about that
either. How about omitting "you want" as well?
Yes. That's much better.

Eh, it's not really that big of a deal.

Do you cut your students some breaks with their "bad" English?

Thanks,

It was a joke -- to say that something is not that big "of" a deal is
like saying that you own a brown "of a" dog, or that Liv Tyler is a
beautiful "of a" girl.

As for my students, many of them are ESL, and indeed I do give them
"breaks" in that I don't cover their papers with red ink. Honestly,
that would only discourage them. Baby steps...

Ah ha! So you're the reason DH's grad students can't write a complete
sentence. I thought so!

If his grad students are first-generation Cape Verdeans from Rhode
Island, that's a possibility! :^)
