Spears travesty proves our point!
Simple question:
I what alternate universe could a man act the way Britney Spears has over the past year and *STILL* be given continued chances at getting back full custody of his children?? I think that one would even exceed the imagination of Gene Rodenberry! Note that even up to this point, Federline still has only a temporary custody order. This despite the fact that Spears has had NUMEROUS public mental "meltdowns" and has REPEATEDLY missed and dissed court appearances. And I don't think it can all be explained away by the favored treatment Hollywood-elite receive in LA courts. I cannot conceive of a male "super-star" acting in similar manner and still being allowed opportunities to get back any form of custody. Heck, I have a hard time believing Federline even got the temporary order that he has. I doubt seriously he would have had Spears not being so completely IN YOUR FACE with her antics -- to the point that the courts had no choice. The fact remains clear: Despite what the courts might "say" and despite how the laws might be "written", the truth is that woman are granted preferential "assumed" custody in family court. The only way a man can ever be granted custody is for the woman to be proven beyond a shadow of doubt COMPLETELY unsuited. On the other hand, for a woman to be granted custody, all she need do is want it. |

It's a pathetic society we live in !
50/50 custody is the only solution!!! wrote in message ... Don't overlook the obvious. The judge is probably a dirty old man who likes looking at fake boobs and fantasizing about whether Spears is wearing her underwear while in his courtroom. He could be dragging out the case for his own personal jollies. |

Re-thinking my own position on this matter, it has occurred to me that perhaps the truth of the matter is the opposite from what I had originally assumed. Perhaps it is not so much that Britney is "getting away" with this crap because she is a female....but rather she has recieved what sanctions that she has (slight as they are)....only because she *IS* a celebrity and this has all unfoled under the spot light of public scrutiny. After thinking about it, I reminded myself that whereas Britney has at least temporarily lost custody and visitation right due to her antics (I'm still wondering why its only "temporarily"), there are women who are pulling all sorts of wigged-out nonsense and getting away with it unscathed. Women all across the USA are denying father's visitation, moving out of town (absconding with the kids) for 'a job", or neglecting the kids while they go out to score a hit of crack, etc etc They get away with it because there is no media spot light...no paparazzi....no E! True Hollywood Story to bring the matter to the public eye. |

Maybe it is a combination of both though...IOW, the original point was that
a man would never get away with this. By all accounts she refused to return the kids from a scheduled visit, if a man were to do that we would have been arrested, imho wrote in message ... Besides Michael Jackson. Say what you will about Jackson he WAS "acquitted." Spears was NOT! If Spears was a father he would have had his parental rights terminated long ago. |
