my dd's night nursings (was: she doesn't wet diapers at nights) (long, sorry)
It goes something like this.. I put her to bed in crib around 8:30 - 9
soon after she has atleast 4 ounces or ebm. She pretty much passes out after that. Then she wakes up after exactly one hour. Then I bring her to the bed and nurse her back to sleep. Then she sometimes wakes up after one more hour and then I nurse her back to sleep and I too go to bed at that time. At nights she moves a lot. She turns 45 & 90 degrees through out the night. whimpers and fusses a bit. So whenever I hear her whimper, I turn her around so that she faces me and nurse her back to sleep. She does this 2-3 times if it's a good night and 4-5 times if it's a bad night. She's a very light sleeper and I became so too. During all these wakings (5-7 times in total between 9pm and 7am), she has one good nursing. I can tell by how well she sucks. Rest of the time she nuzzles just a bit and dozes off. Here's what I think. Please let me know if I'm right/wrong. 1. DH moves a lot in bed and I think dd is being disturbed by that. I think she's better off sleeping in the crib for the night. 2. Every time I'm trying to nurse her back to sleep, she's not getting any substantial amount of milk. Can she sustain like this? Is she fussy because she's hungry? 3. During the day she hardly sleeps. May be an hour. She drinks a total of 20 ounces of ebm during the day and eats solids twice (for the past two days). I know that's way too less than many babies her age (7 months). She has never been interested in eating/drinking much. She takes one whole hour to finish her 5oz bottle. At her 6 month check up she weighed 16lb 4oz. The ped said that's 50 th percentile. I'm not that worried because she was born in 10th percentile. I can go on writing like this but I think you get an idea by reading all this. Please let me know what you think. Thanks. |

I am wondering if she is *overtired*. Could she perhaps have another nap

Another option is to sleep with your baby away from your dh. That's what I do because my dh snores. Not to say anything is wrong with a crib. I just like night nursing and the convenience of having the baby with me. Something else you could try is rearranging yourselves in the bed. What we do, left to right, is DH, me, then DS. We have a rail on DS's side. Belphoebe |
