A pixel (short for PIcture ELement, using the common abbreviation "pix"

for
"pictures") is a single point in a GRAPHIC IMAGE.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixel

Unless you're reading a binary newsgroup, you will not see pixels on
USENET.

Aren't the letters of the alphabet tiny IMAGES? If not, what are they?
What are they made of?

A. --------------- looks like a tiny picture of a mountain to me, with
a
road going across it.

M (as in Magnetic Fields) looks like two mountains with a valley in

between.
Are these letters really not images to everyone? I always thought it was
clear they are little tiny pictures...

And one doesn't normally see the individual pixels, but rather the
aggregrate of them.

True. I'm just wondering what makes a picture a picture - certainly not a
pixel, not in general.

And how does the word "pixelated" relate to this? That's been around a long
time. Was pixel derived from pixelated?

There is a word "pixilated" (i not e) whaich has been around for a
long time derived from pixie, so I doubt it has anything to do with
pixel elements.
